Team events Berlin
The federal capital Berlin is the largest city in Germany in terms of both population and area, and is also one of the federal states. In addition to the Federal Government, the Federal President, the Bundestag and the Bundesrat, as well as various ministries and embassies, four DAX and MDAX companies – Siemens, Axel Springer, Deutsche Wohnen and Zalando – also have their headquarters in Berlin. The metropolis with the UNESCO title “City of Design” is also considered an up-and-coming center for innovative company founders. In addition, Berlin enjoys the reputation of a world city of science, culture, media and, of course, politics due to its renowned universities and research institutions as well as museums and sporting events. This, interesting architecture, diverse shopping opportunities, international festivals and major events and, last but not least, the world-famous nightlife make the city, first mentioned in a document in the 13th century, one of the most visited tourist destinations in Europe after London and Paris.
The most famous square in Berlin
One of the city’s most famous and popular landmarks, Alexanderplatz provides a perfect starting or finishing point for our Urban Challenge. To the east of the former parade and drill ground, affectionately known as “Alex” in the vernacular, the 10-meter-high World Time Clock, erected in 1969, forms a popular meeting point for locals and tourists alike that is well worth seeing. The TV tower, completed in the same year, is the tallest in Germany and the fourth tallest free-standing structure in Europe at 368 meters. More than a million visitors a year enjoy a fantastic view of the German capital from the viewing platform, which is over 200 meters high. This makes the TV tower one of the ten most popular sights in Germany. Just a few meters away you will find three more attractions worth seeing, the Rotes Rathaus, the Marienkirche and the Neptunbrunnen.
Visit the “Reichstag”
We also recommend a visit to the Reichstag building, which was built between 1884 and 1894. From the roof terrace you also have an excellent view over the city as well as of the Federal Chancellery located diagonally opposite. You can register for a free tour of the dome and the roof terrace here. There you will also find more information about opening hours and guided tours.
The landmark of German unity
A “must” for every visitor to Berlin is, of course, a visit to the world-famous Brandenburg Gate, which has gone from being the former memorial of division to the current symbol of German unity. The building, which was commissioned by King Frederick William II between 1788 and 1791, was not originally politically motivated, but was conceived as a dignified conclusion to Berlin’s oldest promenade, the boulevard Unter den Linden. In addition to Pariser Platz, which is home to the American Embassy and the Adlon Hotel, among others, the area surrounding the Brandenburg Gate is also home to the Holocaust Memorial, which was inaugurated in 2005. More information about the field of stelae, which is freely accessible around the clock, can be found here.
An island in the middle of Berlin
Also worthwhile is a detour to the Spree Island, located in the center of the metropolis. Here you will find the Berlin Cathedral, originally built in the 15th century and rebuilt under Kaiser Wilhelm II from 1894 to 1905, whose striking dome is hard to miss. Next to it stretches the Lustgarten, in the north of which the “Museum Island” begins. This is home to one of the most outstanding museum complexes in the world, which has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
Small refreshment at the “Gendarmenmarkt”
After successfully completing our Urban Challenge or our Escape the City Escape Game, a visit to one of the cafés and restaurants around the Gendarmenmarkt is a good idea. Surrounded by the German and French cathedrals and the concert hall, it is considered the most beautiful square in the German capital. Every year, the “Classic Open Air Concert” takes place here at the beginning of July and the “Unity Festival” on October 3.
End at the “Ku’damm
If there is still enough time, we also advise you to take a stroll along Berlin’s most famous shopping boulevard, the Kurfürstendamm. At the eastern end of the boulevard stands the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which was destroyed in World War II, preserved as a memorial. Here, the “Ku’damm” merges eastward into Tauentzienstrasse, where KaDeWe and the Europa Center, among others, are located.
